University of Hawaii at Hilo: the applicant's brief

6 findings
  1. The short answer

The University of Hawaii at Hilo is a public university in Hilo, Hawaiʻi, and it suits students looking for a bachelor’s-level education in engineering, business, computing, and architecture. It is also one of ten campuses in the University of Hawaiʻi System, so it may fit students who want a smaller campus within a larger public system.

  2. What you can study

The university offers 17 bachelor’s degree programmes. Examples include Architecture; Biomedical Engineering; Business Administration with majors in Accounting, Construction Management, Entrepreneurship, General Management, and Marketing; Chemical Engineering; Civil Engineering; Computer Engineering; Computer Science; and Electrical Engineering. The published degree level is bachelor’s degree only, so students looking for postgraduate study should confirm current options on the official website.

  3. Getting in

International applicants should apply directly through the university and check the admissions pages for the current entry requirements, document list, deadlines, and any English-language requirements. The university does not publish a complete admissions process summary here, so confirm the application route and any country-specific requirements with the admissions office before applying.

  4. What it costs

The university does not publish a tuition fee range for international students; confirm the current rate with its admissions office. Living costs in Hilo will depend on housing, food, transport, and personal spending, so plan a separate budget for those expenses.

  5. Coming from abroad

The language of instruction is not published, so confirm this before applying if you need proof of English ability or other language support. You should also check visa timing, document translation rules, housing, and whether your chosen programme has any extra entry requirements.

  6. How it compares

Among 2,515 universities in the United States, this is a public university with 17 bachelor’s programmes and no published postgraduate degrees in the information available. That makes it a more focused option than large research-heavy institutions, especially for applicants who want a limited but clear undergraduate menu.

Written from this university's catalogue entry and its cited encyclopedia summary. Figures are only shown where the institution or a cited source publishes them — always confirm fees and entry requirements with the university itself before applying.
